UPDATE: Road Reopened After Truck Crash

POINT TOWNSHIP — A portion of Route 147 was closed for most of the day after a tractor-trailer carrying bottles of bleach rolled over around 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

“I just heard the crash. I thought it was the trains because that’s what you hear all the time,” said Robert Aucker of Point Township.

Police said the truck was headed southbound when it veered off the road and hit a tree. Police believe the driver fell asleep at the wheel. He was flown to a nearby hospital for treatment.

It took emergency responders several hours to remove the man from the truck.

People watching crews clean up at the scene were shocked to hear that the man was doing well.

“I’d say he’s lucky. If he’s alive, he’s lucky,” said Edmond Woodward of Point Township.

The well-traveled road was blocked for most of the day, causing headaches for drivers.

Miranda Barbour’s Alleged Confession Played in Court

SUNBURY — The woman charged with killing a man she and her husband met on Craigslist was in court today in Sunbury fighting for her life.

Miranda Barbour walked into the Northumberland County Courthouse for a hearing. Barbour’s attorney Ed Greco filed a motion to drop the aggravating circumstances in her case, meaning the death penalty would be taken off the table.

Barbour and her husband Elytte are accused of killing Troy LaFerrara of Port Trevorton last November in Sunbury. The two allegedly met LaFerrara on Craigslist and killed him for the thrill of it.

Snowstorm Surprises the Susquehanna Valley

Many roads were closed throughout the day in Northumberland and Columbia Counties because of a storm that dumped close to a foot of snow on parts of our area. The storm knocked down power lines and trees.

Newswatch 16 found this maintenance crew from Knoebels Amusement Resort cleaning up along Route 487 near Elysburg.

“We had maintenance cutting up trees and i grabbed a dump truck and started cleaning up. It’s less than a couple of weeks til we open and we get hit with this mess of a storm,” Nathan Leighow said.

Paul Foulds and his brother-in-law were trying to make some money by plowing people’s driveways. But they got stuck on Point Breeze Road near Shamokin, because several trees had fallen across the roadway.

“We’re waiting for them to get the power lines hooked back up so we can go down and plow the lady’s driveway out for her,” Paul Foulds said.
